Major Press Reviews - Current Releases
Food & Wine Magazine - May 2008
Discover Wine Country TV did a great
feature article on us.
We had a great write-up in
The Bohemian Aug 29-Sep 4 2007 issue.
James Knight did a great story on us.
"The wine? Absolutely frickin' brilliant...
My notes actually read, 'Raspberry velvet love tongue?'
...I found myself jealously gripping my glass toward the end of the tasting."
In an interview on npr.com, on the show "Splendid Table", March
17th on Pinot Noir, Ray Isle (Senior Editor of Food and Wine
Magazine) mentions Woodenhead as
one of his three favorite Pinots. Read the
show summary
or listen to the
full interview
(Woodenhead is mentioned about 10 minutes into the show.)
The Colorado Wine News Volume 17 No. 1 (Apr-June 2007)
"The 2004 Zinfandel, Martinelli Road Vineyard, Old Vine, Russian River Valley,
... has ripe, forward aromas of blueberry, cherry, raspberry, cranberry
and spice. All except the blueberry continue as tart flavors
laced with fine tannin and finish medium-broad and meduim-long.
A Zin' to pair with food."
Food & Wine Magazine - March 2007
Restaurant Wine Magazine Issue #115 (Sept/Oct 2006)
- 2004 BUENA TIERRA VYD., RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY ****
- 2004 RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY ****+
- 2004 MORNING DEW RANCH, ANDERSON VALLEY ****+
- 2004 WILEY VYD., ANDERSON VALLEY *****
"Four excellent, limited-release Pinot Noirs. Buena Tierra is very
complex in character; a full bodied, lightly tannic wine, which has
peppery, fruity flavors (cherry, blackberry), with oak overtones. Long
aftertaste. 193 cases. The RRV bottling is velvety, full bodied, finely
flavored (strawberry, cherry, toast, vanilla), and very persistent on
the finish. 273 cases. The Anderson Valley Pinots are relatively
powerful--Morning Dew is rich and full bodied, with intense plum and
cherry fruitiness, and layers of oak complexity (toast, tobacco, roasted
nut). Impressive. 166 cases. Wiley is concentrated and full bodied, with
crisp acidity, and a very long finish, tasting of black cherry, toast,
tobacco, red currant, and cherry. 305 cases. All 4 wines are unfined &
unfiltered. [2007-2008]"
Food & Wine Magazine October 2006 issue lists us 10th in
America's 50 Most Amazing Wine Experiences:
[Captain's Tavern, Florida:] "With wines like California's cult-Zin Woodenhead on hand, this is
not your average fish house. Owner Bill Bowers has assembled a well-priced
600-bottle list to accompany the kitch-filled dining room's Carribean-and-South American-inspired seafood."
